"13th" Screening & Discussion

In March 2017, members of the Auburn, Alabama community were joined by Alabamians as far as Montgomery to view the critically-acclaimed documentary 13th (2016), and discussed the topics of systemic racism and the prison-industrial complex presented within the film. The discussion included Gift of Life parent educator Ashley Edwards (AU ‘15), Auburn University graduate research assistant Dr. Beth McDaniel (AU PhD ‘20), counseling education professor Dr. Tylon Crook (AU PhD ‘10), and Montgomery Education Foundation community programs director Dillon Nettles (AU ‘15). This event was presented in partnership with the Auburn University College of Liberal Arts Outreach Department, and aptly took place at the historic Langdon Hall, known for being the site of a series of pre-Civil War secession debates featuring the likes of Williams Lowndes Yancey and Alexander Stephens.
